James Thomas

James Thomas is a director for Nation Outside, where he conducts trauma-informed peer led reentry services. In addition, James is a regional connector for the National Incarcerated Children’s Advocacy Network. 

Mr. Thomas  is a council member on the National JLWOP Leadership Council (Human Rights Watch).

James is also the CEO and president of Rising Sun Ink non-profit that he founded to improve the quality of life in communities impacted by poverty, homelessness, and incarceration. Mr. Thomas’ nonprofit provides food to 500 families each week in cities of Michigan such as Inkster, Detroit, and surrounding communities. Through his  nonprofit initiatives his organization provides reentry resources and mentorship to impacted youth.

James has proudly  served on the Inkster Housing Commission board  for going on three years and his mission continues to include the ending of  homelessness and address housing barriers that many face with his community.
