  • We provide safe, affordable housing and supportive programs for families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities in Inkster.

  • Our main office is at 4500 Inkster Road, Inkster, MI 48141.

  • Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (closed on federal holidays).

  • IHC manages both Public Housing units, Affordable Housing, and the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV/Section 8) Program.

About Us

  • You can apply online through our website or stop by the office when our waitlist is open. We’ll help you through the process.

  • Yes, there usually is. Wait times vary depending on availability, but we’ll keep you updated once you’re on the list.

  • No, but you must be 18 years or older to apply.

Applying for Housing

Eligibility

  • Anyone who meets income limits set by HUD. We also review things like rental history and background.

  • Be ready to show:

    • Photo IDs for adults

    • Social Security cards

    • Birth certificates

    • Proof of income (pay stubs, SSI, etc.)

    • Other applicable documents

Rent & Payments

  • Rent is usually about 30% of your household’s income, based on HUD rules.

  • You can pay online through Rent Café, by mail, or in person at the office.

Living Here

  • Call our Maintenance Hotline at 734-351-5410. Maintenance requests can also be submitted online through Rent Café. For emergencies after hours, call the same number and follow the prompts.

  • Yes, but with some rules. Pets need to be registered through IHC and the City of Inkster, and certain types and sizes may not be allowed.

Resident Services

  • Our department is here to support residents beyond housing. We connect you with programs, resources, and opportunities to help you achieve your personal, financial, and educational goals.

  • All IHC residents and Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) participants are welcome to participate in IHC Resident Services programs.

  • Yes. We can connect you to GED programs, college resources, scholarships, and training opportunities.

  • Yes. We can help with budgeting, saving, and connecting you to community resources like food, utilities, and healthcare assistance.

Recertification

  • Every year, we review your household information to make sure your rent is still accurate.

  • Your housing could be at risk, so it’s very important to respond to all notices and appointments.
